Familias Juntas or Families Together is an organization that helps children meet for the first time their families in Guatemala, their family's country of origin, while shededing light on the issues of our broken immigration system through the experiences and lives of those affected -- the children here in the US and their families in Guatemala. Inspired by Guatemalan families in Worthington Minnesota and the parent's deep desire for their children to know their family members in Guatemala, a group of volunteers brought 14 of United States born children to Guatemala to make their dream come true in July of 2013.
It was a dream in the hearts of the immigrants of Worthington, Minn. and their families in Guatemala. One day, they hoped to be together again. As a result of months of planning and preparation, that dream came true for fourteen U.S. born children of immigrant parents. In July, 2013, volunteers of Familias Juntas traveled with the children to Guatemala where they met for the first time their extended families their. For those who were part of that incredible venture, it was an experience that is difficult to put into words.
Since the 2013 trip, Familias Juntas has expanded their vision to include a more holistic approach toward immigration and the issues caused by immigration.
Currently, Familias Juntas is in the process of receiving their 501(c)3 status. This will allow them to continue growing their mission.
